If My Life Were a Series…

Listen. If my life had a script, it would absolutely be greenlit by now.

It would probably stream on Netflix or Peacock, with a strong fan following and Twitter threads full of conversation.

Seriously, some days I feel like I’m living in the middle of a mashup between Insecure and Survival of the Thickest, which are two of my favorite series depicting women of color navigating life, love, and career. The lead characters are juggling love, disappointment, joy, career moves, awkward moments, impromptu therapy sessions with her girls, falling in love, and just enough glow-up to keep you rooting for her.

Issa Rae’s character in Insecure? Yep. That’s me when I’m navigating friendships, wanting to be in love, and branching out in my “dream career”. Michelle Buteau’s character in Survival of The Thickest? Also me…when I’m trying to reclaim my softness after life threw me some curveballs.

If my life were broken down into episodes, you’d laugh, cry, gasp, text your bestie, then hit “next episode” without even blinking. There’s trauma. There’s plot twists. There’s healing. There’s peace, There’s joy, There’s self-love, There’s love for others, There’s career invention (and reinvention), There’s new experiences. And then there’s me…still here. Still standing. Still growing.

About that joy? There’s a lot of it. And softness. And rest. And unexpected moments of grace, new friendships, and restored faith in love, all of which remind me I’m exactly where I need to be.

It’s giving main character energy. Not because life is perfect. But because I keep showing up for myself…even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard. And trusting the process. And being open to try again.

So, if you’ve ever felt like your life was a streaming series that hasn’t been picked up yet, you’re not alone. Keep writing your episodes. The right audience is watching. And the plot twist? It’s in your favor.
