If Your Life Were Music, What Would It Sound Like?

Ever thought about what genre your life would be if it had a soundtrack?

Honestly, I think it changes depending on where we are in life…what we’re going through, how we’re moving through it, and how all of it makes us feel. Sometimes life sounds like a trap beat with too much bass and not enough balance. Other times? It hums like a slow jam on a rainy Sunday.

Me? I’d say my life sounds like a mix of neo-soul and smooth jazz.

Neo-soul, to me, is soul music that’s been hugged by incense and grounded in truth. It’s poetry with a beat. It’s the kind of sound that makes you close your eyes and exhale deeply…like a sonic version of a warm bath after a long day. Neo-soul feels like honesty, ease, and emotional freedom.

Now, smooth jazz? That’s a whole other vibe. It’s grown, sexy, and sophisticated. Even when it’s upbeat, it doesn’t rush. When it’s slow, it doesn’t sulk…it soothes. It’s giving “I’m not new to this, I’m true to this.” Whether it’s mid-tempo or mellow, smooth jazz reminds me to breathe through the chaos and keep it cute, even when life’s acting a little ugly.

Just like life, music has its ups and downs…its funky bridges and unexpected key changes. But when you’ve got the right people in your corner, the right mindset, and the ability to laugh even when life’s throwing lemons like it’s training for the MLB… you learn how to find your rhythm. You start dancing in the mess and making peace with the pauses.

So yeah, the soundtrack of my life is a blend…neo-soul for my spirit and smooth jazz for my stride. Together, they tell the story of my journey through love, loss, career moves, spiritual awakenings, and that ever-elusive thing called balance.

And honestly? I think that mix sounds just right for this chapter I’m in.
