Sometimes, It’s not JUST a New Hairstyle!

Before I get into this think piece, press play below.

Firstly, let me shout out Anthony Claxton, the owner of Krew Kuts for making women feel good about themselves in more ways than one. It’s an absolute beautiful thing he’s doing.

We women are emotionally tied to our hair, and I’ve always believed that how we look can translate to how we feel. The power of a new hairstyle heightens confidence and helps us to take a deeper look into our self-expression.

For me, just getting my locs freshly retwisted will have me feeling like the 3rd member of Chloe n Halle!

So, I can imagine how a woman would feel when she steps inside the salon feeling like shit and leaves the salon with a new do and feeling like she’s THE SHIT! For many of us, it’s not just about changing our look; it’s about altering how WE feel about ourselves on a deeper level. There’s something special about the process of reinventing ourselves through our hair. A new style, a fresh cut or a bold color can make a woman feel like a brand-new person, inside and out.

The versatile ways we wear our hair speaks volumes about who we are and how we want to present ourselves to the world. From rocking something extra like extensions, to rocking our natural like an afro or locs, It’s about freedom of self-expression and individuality. On a deeper level, we could be bringing ourselves out of a bout with depression. Sometimes, all it takes is to see ourselves with different lenses of beauty to feel better about us as women.

It’s proof that changing your hairstyle can also impact how you feel internally. There’s a psychological aspect to it that goes beyond just aesthetics. When we change our appearance, we’re essentially rewriting the narrative of who we are and how we perceive ourselves. A flattering hairstyle, or even a bold new cut, can boost our self-esteem to the max! We’re now standing a little taller, smiling a little wider, the pep in our step is peppin’, and tackling our days with renewed mindset of “I GOT THIS!”

Moreover, a new hairstyle can spark a sense of liberation and empowerment. It’s like shedding old layers of yourself to reveal the more authentic version of you. Maybe you’ve been stuck in a style rut for years, clinging to the familiar out of fear of change. But once you take that leap and embrace something new and different, you realize just how freeing it can be…and guess what…YOU LOOK DAMN GOOD!

Of course, the journey to self-acceptance isn’t solely dependent on external factors like our hair. TRUE confidence comes from within, rooted in self-love and acceptance. But there’s no denying that our outward appearance plays a SIGNIFICANT role in shaping how we perceive ourselves.

In the age of audio/video podcasting, I think I'm one of a VERY FEW who still "blogs". I come from that old school of personal blogging. I'm a part of a generation that still appreciates the art of expression in words. I guess that's why the passion for it has never really left me.
