Y’all ever had one of those moments where life feels like it’s body-slamming you into the ground, and all you can do is lay there? Yeah, that was me—crushed, confused, and craving some kind of outlet that wouldn’t judge me for my life’s plot twists. Enter TikTok.
I know what you’re thinking. TikTok? The app where folks dance, lip-sync, and somehow turn a 15-second clip into a viral sensation? Yep. That TikTok. But let me tell you something—TikTok became my unlikely therapist, my digital stage, and my creative playground.
It all started during what I can only describe as “The Storm”. You know, one of those life chapters so heavy you want to toss the whole book into the trash. Instead of stewing in my emotions, I opened the TikTok app, created an account, and just…let go.
At first, I was there for the laughs. But then I found myself venting, acting out scenarios, poking fun at my situation, and sharing my thoughts in the most unfiltered, sassy, and raw way possible. I gave my pain a personality. I danced out my frustrations (poorly, I might add with those challenges). I even shared a little wisdom I didn’t know I had. And honey, the healing? Oh, it snuck up on me like an Amazon package you forgot you ordered.
TikTok gave me permission to be. To be silly, to vent, and to say things I wouldn’t normally share in a crowded room. My followers? Baby, they showed up with likes, comments, and duets, reminding me that I wasn’t alone in my mess. The platform became my digital sanctuary, where I could be everything at once…broken and bold, funny and fragile.
But like all good things, it’s time for us to say goodbye, as the doors of Tik Tok (Owned by Chinese CEO) shuts down permanently, due to a ban issued by the US Supreme Court for security and privacy concerns.
Nonetheless, TikTok served its purpose for me in that season. It gave me laughter when I didn’t think I could smile, a voice when mine felt silenced, and a space to begin healing. Now, I’m ready to keep growing, shifting my focus back to the platforms where I tell my story more intimately—like this blog, The Musings of Kia.
So, here’s my little love note to TikTok: Thank you for being a safe space when I felt unsafe. For holding me down with all the humor, healing, and humanity I didn’t even know I needed. You’ll always be a part of my story.
