I Hung Out with Myself & it’s One of The Greatest Experiences!

First things first, let’s tackle the mindset that many folks have. Many people feel a bit uneasy about going out alone. They worry about looking lonely or out of place. But here’s a little secret: being comfortable in your own company is a superpower! It’s all about shifting your perspective. Instead of seeing it as “alone,” think of it as “independent.” You’re not waiting around for someone else to have a good time; you’re taking charge of your own happiness.

I was one of those people for a long time, until I stepped out of my shell JUST LAST NIGHT!

I initially invited my sister circle to meet up with me at a day party I attended, but as the week went by, I realized that wasn’t going to happen. However, instead of me canceling on going because I had no one meeting me there, I decided to do what I haven’t done in a long time and that’s hang out with myself. Last night, was my FIRST time, going to a bar and lounge ALONE! And you know what? I still had a great gotdamn time!

Whether your friends are busy, your partner is tied up with work, or you’re just in the mood for some quality “me time”, you can still experience one of the best experiences of your life by simply not denying yourself a day to hang out with yourself.

The world is your oyster when you’re solo! Start with places that genuinely interest you. Love art? Hit up a museum or gallery. Bookworm? Find a cozy cafe or a park and dive into a new novel. Foodie? Treat yourself to that restaurant you’ve been wanting to try out. When you’re alone, there’s no need to compromise on what to do or where to go. It’s all about you and what makes you happy. Going out by yourself can be an incredibly fun and rewarding experience.

And just because you’re out by yourself doesn’t mean you have to be alone the entire time. Solo outings can be fantastic opportunities to meet new people, or even people you already know that you cross in passing. Strike up a conversation with someone at the bar, join a group activity, or participate in a local class or workshop. People are often more open and friendly than we give them credit for, especially when they see someone confidently enjoying their own company.

Going out by yourself doesn’t have to be boring or dull. You don’t have to feel shame or lonely. It can be a refreshing and empowering experience that enriches your life in unexpected ways. So next time you find yourself with some free time and no plans, remember: the best company you can keep is your own. Get out there, explore, and have a blast! It could honestly be one of the best experiences of your life. It surely was for me!

In the age of audio/video podcasting, I think I'm one of a VERY FEW who still "blogs". I come from that old school of personal blogging. I'm a part of a generation that still appreciates the art of expression in words. I guess that's why the passion for it has never really left me.
