There’s something magical about the day at the spa. I always imagined it as the epitome of relaxation, a luxury for those who have truly mastered the art of self-care. So, when the opportunity for my first spa experience came knocking, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement, but also a touch of nervousness. Would it live up to the hype? Spoiler alert: it did, and then some!
My cousins and I took a road trip to Virginia for a day of bliss at King Spa. It was also in celebration of one of my cousin’s BEARTHday! Walking through the front doors, I didn’t know what to expect other than meditation music and the inviting fragrance of lavender greeting us as we enter.
Walking into the spa, I felt like a kid on the first day of school. There was no lavender fragrance but everything else I almost imagined came to fruition. Everything was new for me and a bit intimidating. From the serene ambiance to the white walls with beautiful artwork displayed throughout, I was impressed. I also expected plush robes worn by the visitors, but we were given fashionable shorts sets that reminded me of what I wear to bed, sometimes.
The receptionist was efficient and greeted us with an itinerary and offers of discounts for our next visit. I felt at ease, until I realized I didn’t bring enough for the full spa treatment. My body was SCREAMING for a full body massage, so I knew IMMEDIATELY to plan the next trip before ending the day. I basically chose all the sauna rooms, the naked sauna (YES! NAKED), and the outside pool. After my choices, I was ready to embark on my journey to relaxation.
Each area we stepped into felt like an invitation to leave the outside world behind. I found myself inhaling deeply, feeling calmer with each breath with each activity. Even in the naked sauna, I felt relaxed and comfortable to undress and walk around nude because the other visitors were relaxed and comfortable. It was a liberating experience and for the 1st time, in a public setting, I didn’t care that all my cookies were exposed. All I had on my mind was RELAXATION!
Stepping into the warm sauna was like a gentle hug for my entire body. I could feel the tension melting away, drop by drop. The bubbles popping up all around me, created a soothing symphony that drowned out the noise of daily life. I closed my eyes and let everyting work its magic. The same could be said about all the steam rooms I relaxed in, as well.
The NON-nude and unisex sauna were enjoyable, simply because we had it to ourselves for a good while..LOL. We even took the opportunity to flick it up!
My first spa experience taught me an important lesson: self-care is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. We often get so caught up in our busy lives that we forget to take a moment for ourselves. The spa day was a reminder that it’s okay to hit pause and recharge. I left the spa feeling rejuvenated but wanting more!
So, if you’ve been putting off that spa day, consider this your sign to book it and keep it! Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later. And who knows, you might just find yourself addicted to the art of relaxation, just like I did.
